College Roundup : Fullerton Splits Softball Doubleheader
Cal State Fullerton’s softball team split a doubleheader with Cal State Long Beach in Big West Conference action Thursday at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
Long Beach won the first game, 3-1. Fullerton won the second, 3-0.
In the first game, Long Beach scored three runs in the fifth inning. Ruby Flores (6-5) pitched 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief to get the victory.
Chris Sison went three for three for Long Beach.
In the second game, Ann Van Dortecht (11-3) pitched a shutout for the Titans. Van Dortecht struck out seven and gave up three hits and two walks.
Fullerton is 26-6 overall, 10-2 in conference play and ranked fifth in the NCAA poll. Long Beach is 19-14, 5-7 and ranked 15th.
In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:
Southern California College 2-14, Azusa Pacific 1-0--SCC swept the doubleheader at Azusa behind the pitching of Susie Hopkins.
She had two strikeouts in the first game and three in the second. Sarah Beattie was two for three in the first game and three for four in the second. Cindy Salazar had two hits in the first game for SCC.
SCC is 12-12, 3-3.
