Local News in Brief : Oscars’ Snow White Dispute Continues
Attorneys for the producers of the Academy Awards and the Walt Disney Co. met Friday but failed to settle a copyright infringement suit over Snow White’s appearance in the opening number of the Los Angeles Oscar presentation.
Erwin Okun, a Disney spokesman, said that, although future meetings between the lawyers would be held, the company was proceeding with its legal options as well.
Disney has sued the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in federal court, contending that the academy did not have permission to use the Snow White character in a performance that constituted an “unauthorized and unflattering reference” to Disney’s original.
