Ventura Freeway Ramp to Shut at Woodlake

The Woodlake Avenue on-ramp to the westbound Ventura Freeway will be closed beginning this morning for an unspecified period of time as a safety precaution, Caltrans announced Tuesday.

Larry Hathaway, Caltrans traffic management coordinator for the Ventura Improvement Project, said construction on the freeway will require temporarily eliminating the outside shoulder at that location. As a result, a driver using the on-ramp would have nowhere to go if for some reason he was unable to merge onto the freeway.

While no specific date was set, Hathaway said Caltrans would reopen the ramp as soon as it was safe to do so.

Motorists who normally use the westbound Woodlake Avenue on-ramp are advised to continue west on Ventura Boulevard and enter the freeway by using the Long Valley Road/Valley Circle Boulevard on-ramp. Traffic officers from the Los Angeles Department of Transportation will be on hand daily to direct traffic.
