On The Line Equals Track Record in Win
Even-money favorite On The Line equaled the Santa Anita track record for 6 1/2 furlongs Wednesday when he won the $111,500 Potrero Grande Handicap by three-quarters of a length over Ron Bon in 1:14.
On The Line, ridden by Gary Stevens, stumbled out of the gate but recovered and paid $4, $3.20 and $2.60. Mark’s Place set the Santa Anita record for 6 1/2 furlongs on March 19, 1977.
The victory before a crowd of 16,435 was the 11th in 28 starts for On The Line, a 5-year-old son of Mehmet, and was worth $66,500, raising his earnings total to $775,730.
Ron Bon, ridden by Alex Solis, paid $4.20 and $3.20. Jamoke, ridden by Chris McCarron, paid $3.80 to show.
