A San Francisco man sought in the pickax slaying of his elderly mother was arrested without incident by police and FBI agents. James Richard Garrett, 49, was taken into custody on an Oakland street corner by uniformed officers, FBI spokesman Chuck Latting said. “We’re sure we’ve got the right guy,” Latting said. “We’ve got his driver’s license.” Authorities in York, Pa., allege that Garrett killed his mother, Grace Reever Garrett, 79, with a pickax on March 23 in the basement of her home in a bid to inherit her $600,000 estate.
