Laguna Beach : Organizations Awarded $40,000 for AIDS Work
Laguna Shanti, an organization providing free emotional support and assistance to AIDS victims and their families and friends, has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the James Irvine Foundation of Newport Beach.
The organization, which began June 1, 1987, has helped 150 people with AIDS or AIDS-Related Complex and 80 friends and family members, organization officials said.
Officials said the grant will “enable Laguna Shanti to further develop its volunteer services and funding base.”
The organization, which also helps people with other life-threatening illnesses, also will receive a commendation from the city of Laguna Beach April 18 for its services, officials said.
