Community College Roundup : Saddleback Golfers Shoot Into First
Saddleback College shot a 384 Thursday to tie Palomar and move into first place in the Orange Empire Conference golf standings at the Lake San Marcos golf course.
With the tie, the Gauchos moved ahead of Orange Coast, which finished third in the match with a score of 390. Saddleback has a half-match lead over the Pirates with two matches remaining.
John Gilles shot a two-over 74 to lead the Gauchos. Gillies finished second, two strokes behind Frank Pantoyja of Orange Coast.
Fullerton was fourth (410), Rancho Santiago fifth (421) and Cypress sixth (445).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 9, Fullerton 0--Carl Hinds defeated Mike Cafarchia, 6-0, 6-2, for Saddleback (17-1, 10-0) at Fullerton.
Orange Coast 7, Rancho Santiago 2--John Gabriel defeated Omar Sary, 6-1, 6-1, for Orange Coast (16-2, 9-1) at Rancho Santiago.
