World : Foiled Hijacker Blows Himself Up
HONG KONG — A hijacker with explosives strapped to his back blew himself up after failing to force a domestic Chinese airliner carrying 50 people to fly to Taiwan, it was reported today.
The China News Service said two passengers were injured in the explosion during Monday’s attempted hijacking on a flight from Ningbo to Xiamen.
It said the hijacker, who was carrying a pass from the journalism department of a university, stabbed an airline hostess in the hand before charging into the cockpit and demanding to be flown to Taiwan. The pilot fooled the hijacker by flying around before landing in the city of Fuzhou, it added. It said the hijacker then blew himself up.
