From Times wire services
BANDERA, Tex. — A jockey was killed when he fell from a quarter horse at Bandera Downs race track.
Timothy Ray Stroud, 25, of Mansfield was pronounced dead on arrival at a San Antonio hospital a short time after the accident during a race Sunday afternoon.
Stroud was flipped from his mount when four horses crowded against the rail within 200 yards of the starting gate. Stroud, who was wearing his jockey’s helmet, struck the rail with his neck as he fell and landed face up on a grass-and-gravel surface three or four feet off the track.
