The World - News from May 19, 1989
The World Jewish Congress, which only a few years ago was routinely denounced by the Soviet Union, announced that it will hold its executive meeting this fall in Moscow for the first time ever. The announcement in New York comes after the establishment this year of the first Jewish cultural center in the Soviet Union and the removal of Soviet restrictions against the teaching of Hebrew. It also comes at a time of vastly increased Soviet Jewish emigration.
