Israel Troops Slip Up on Street Tactic
GAZA CITY, Israeli-Occupied Gaza Strip — Israeli troops, forever searching for new ways to combat the 17-month-old Palestinian revolt in the occupied territories, tried greasing streets in Gaza City to stop demonstrators from gathering and to prevent them from fleeing.
“The army sprayed a greasy substance on the street at known trouble spots. . . ,” a military spokeswoman said.
Gaza residents said the grease appeared on some streets Friday, but the experiment appeared to hit a snag when two army jeeps skidded on it while on patrol the next day.
“On Sunday, the army allowed the city council to spread sand on the stuff,” a local man said.
