MOVIES - May 23, 1989
The day of the $7 movie ticket has arrived. On Friday, Mann Theaters raised ticket prices from $6.50 to $7 at its five flagship theaters in Westwood and at the Mann Chinese in Hollywood--just in time for Wednesday’s opening of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” A Mann spokesman on Monday attributed the price increase to “the fact that our costs have increased substantially.” Even at $7, he added, “movie-going is still the least expensive of all leisure time activities, including sports events, concerts and even dining out.” Meanwhile, AMC Theaters quietly raised some ticket prices two weeks ago, but the top price in that chain remains $6.50.
