Prep Wednesday : SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Mission Viejo Upsets Top-Seeded La Mirada

Erin Fitzgerald pitched a six-hitter and Mission Viejo High School upset top-seeded La Mirada, 2-1, Tuesday in the second round of the Southern Section 3-A softball playoffs at Mission Viejo.

Fitzgerald (10-4) struck out four and allowed only a first-inning run. Dina Mullins had a run-scoring single for La Mirada (26-2).

The Diablos (16-10) took the lead with two runs in the fifth. With Kerry McDaniel on second base and Renee Pina on first, Amy Bond singled to center. McDaniel beat the throw to the plate and, when the ball got past the catcher, Pina scored.
