A citizens group said it has gathered 10,000 signatures on petitions urging San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos to reopen an investigation into the alleged police beating of labor leader Dolores Huerta. At a City hall news conference, the Justice for Dolores Huerta Committee asserted that removal of material from the personnel file of Francis Achim, the officer accused of beating Huerta, had hampered investigators. Huerta, 59, one of the founders of the United Farm Workers, sustained four broken ribs and a ruptured spleen during a political protest. She has filed a $15-million claim against the city.
