Cal Poly (SLO) Scores a 7-0 Victory Over Lewis
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Bobby Ryan threw a six-hitter to lead Cal Poly (SLO) to a 7-0 victory over Lewis University Tuesday night, knocking the Flyers out of the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.
Cal Poly, 35-25, will play Slippery Rock (Pa.) today and Thursday, if necessary, needing two victories to advance to Friday’s title game. Lewis closed the season at 42-23.
Ryan (6-8) was never in trouble as he pitched the Mustang’s second shutout of the season. Only one Lewis base runner got as far as third base.
Ryan walked four and struck out seven.
The Mustangs jumped to a 1-0 lead in the third without a hit.
Matt Drake, who had two hits and three RBIs in the game, walked and scored the first run on Rich Shepperd’s sacrifice fly.
