Answer Awaited on Rose Parade Float
The calendar indicates we’re ending the month of May, and I have not, as yet, heard a “yes” or “no” from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. with regard to Laguna Beach entering a float in the 1990 parade.
I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the amount of support here from both individuals, as well as organizations, in my attempt, beginning last January, to have Laguna Beach enter a float. The theme for the 1990 Rose Parade is “The World of Harmony,” and it would be a wonderful opportunity to publicize not only the musical and artistic, but the unique social harmony in Laguna Beach.
The headlines in the newspapers this past week announced the possible demise of the Laguna Beach Municipal Transit District. I propose we put the time and effort that would have gone into designing, financing and building a Rose Parade float toward our own colorful and festive parade every day.
I propose we raise money to help subsidize not only our bus system, but to buy a colorful trolley that would make riding public transportation a “fun” thing to do, and also decorate our existing buses and trams. This would contribute toward getting people out of their “status symbols” (automobiles) and into the buses, especially during the summer art festival time, continuing into busy weekends and holidays year around. What an exciting way to enjoy living in Laguna Beach without the worry of traffic and parking problems.
