Terry Garnett, vice president and general manager of Ashton-Tate’s Macintosh computer software division, has resigned. His organization will be merged into a newly formed Applications Group under another vice president and general manager, Bill Lyons.

Lyons, 44, joined Torrance-based Ashton-Tate last October from International Business Machines and had been head of the PC applications division, which together with the Macintosh division will make up the new Applications Group. A spokeswoman said the realignment would help the company transfer some of the Macintosh graphics software capabilities to other types of personal computers.

The PC applications division had been responsible for word processing, graphics and decision support products, but not for the company’s flagship dBASE database management software. The Macintosh division handled all four of the firm’s Macintosh software products.

Garnett, 31, who joined the firm last July to start up the Macintosh division, left to pursue entrepreneurial activities, the company said.
