Utts Easily Street Stock Points Leader
At the midway point of the Mini Stock and Street Stock racing season at Ventura Raceway, three Camarillo area drivers are leading in three of the four points standing categories.
The most dominant driver in the Street Stock division is Camarillo’s Charles Utts, who has opened up a commanding lead over Jeff Bosley of Camarillo. Utts has 1,655 points followed by Bosley with 975.
This season, Utts has won three main events, four heat races, six trophy dashes, and has recorded nine fast qualifying times, including a Street Stock track record of 16.38. Utts, a four-year veteran at Ventura, could have even more wins, but he has chosen to race only in oval track events this year while forgoing the figure 8 series.
Bosley leads the Street Stock figure 8 division with a slight lead over Jim Firsich, 1,190 points to 1,020. Hume still holds onto third with 740 points but Ventura’s Scott Olsen is closing in with 670 points.
Camarillo’s Gary Curtis has turned in some impressive performance’s in the Mini Stock series. Curtis has 15 main event victories, with nine on the oval track and six in figure 8 racing. In addition, he has four heat race and two trophy dash wins and five quick times.
Curtis leads with 1,485 points in the Mini Stock division followed closely by Rock Ake, Jr. of Moorpark with 1,330. Ventura’s Marty Desbrow and Chris Rasche are third and fourth with 1,115 and 1,025 points.
Ake’s six Mini Stocks figure 8 main-event wins has staked him to the points lead in that division with 1,420 points. In addition, Ake also has two oval track main event and two trophy dash victories.
