Janie Eickhoff of Los Alamitos, became the first medalist of the 1989 U.S. Track Cycling Nationals in Redmond, Wash., setting a national record in winning the women’s one-kilometer time trial.
Eickhoff posted a time of 1 minute 13.81 seconds, taking 23 seconds off the national standard set by Seattle’s Rebecca Twigg in 1984.
Erin Hartwell of Indianapolis won the men’s kilometer time trial, defeating the defending national champion, Bobby Livingston of Riverdale, Ga., by 0.08 of a second.
