With the trading deadline Monday, New York Mets Manager Davey Johnson said he hopes that the Mets can make a deal for Minnesota’s Frank Viola, last year’s American League Cy Young Award winner.
General Manager Andy MacPhail of the Twins said: “We’ve had a lot of talking about it. We did not initiate the talks, so we’re in a position of listening.”
Viola, born in New York and a star at St. John’s University, has struggled for Minnesota this year with an 8-11 record and a 3.64 earned-run average.
