Canseco Cited for Tinted Windows
OAKLAND — Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics was cited by the California Highway Patrol for having the windows of his new Porsche “too heavily tinted,” a patrol spokesman said.
Canseco has had several run-ins with traffic officers in Florida, Arizona and California, mainly for speeding in the bright-red Jaguar that he eventually replaced with the white Porsche.
The switch was billed as a move toward a lower profile and growing maturity, according to Canseco’s attorney. But the Athletics’ slugger has had trouble with the Porsche, too. He was cited for driving it too fast, 51 m.p.h. in a 30-m.p.h. zone, in the East Bay last month.
Saturday, the Porsche was stopped after an A’s victory over the Minnesota Twins, and an equipment violation citation was written for “very tinted windows,” dispatcher Mike Healey said.
Canseco also had no driver’s license but was able to verify his identity, Healey said.
The citation can be cleared without fine by installing tinting material that is not so dark, the patrol said.
