With television continuing to use actual news...
With television continuing to use actual news events as a source of inspiration, real-life incidents invariably turn up as the subjects of new productions.
The latest example is “Tailspin: Behind the Korean Airliner Tragedy,” a 90-minute “HBO Showcase” drama airing Sunday at 9 p.m. on cable’s Home Box Office.
“Tailspin” tells about the Korean passenger jet shot down by a Soviet fighter plane after straying into Soviet airspace during the summer of 1983, resulting in the deaths of all 269 people aboard, including 66 Americans.
It also focuses on the political turmoil that took place in Washington in response to the international incident.
The cast includes Michael Moriarty, Michael Murphy, Chris Sarandon and Harris Yulin.
