Henry Brock, 89; Original Skater With Ice Follies

Henry (Heinie) Brock, one of the original skaters in the former Shipstad and Johnson Ice Follies, has died of complications of emphysema. He was 89.

Brock, of Woodland Hills, died Sunday, according to George Shipstad, a longtime friend and co-owner of the ice revue.

The Shipstad and Johnson Ice Follies, which began in 1936, was the first traveling ice show. Sold by the founders in 1964, the revue was later incorporated into what is now Disney on Ice.

Shipstad said Brock performed as a comedic skater with the show from its beginning until 1946 when he left to perform in hotel ice shows throughout the United States and England.

In his later years, Brock operated a restaurant, El Paseo, in Santa Barbara.

He is survived by his wife, Lil, three step-children and four step-grandchildren, a sister, a niece and a nephew.

The family has requested that contributions be made to the Emphysema Foundation.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Hills, Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
