POP LP CHART : Marx Knocks Prince From No. 1 Spot
Richard Marx’s red-hot “Repeat Offender” album, featuring the smash pop single “Right Here Waiting,” probably would have had Billboard’s No. 1 slot for the past few weeks if Prince’s “Batman” hadn’t been nestled there for the past six weeks. Well, high-flying “Batman” is flying a few notches lower this week, slipping to No. 3 as Marx rises to the top. Paula Abdul’s No. 4 “Forever Your Girl” album has been on the chart 59 weeks and sold more than 2 million copies.
* This is the other “Batman” sound track--the one composed by Danny Elfman, featuring the instrumental music that’s played during the movie. Elfman’s probably won’t go to No. 1 like Prince’s--but, like anything bearing the Batman logo, the Elfman album is a hot item. It swooped up to No. 33 from No. 76.
