North Atlantic Hurricane Is Downgraded to Storm

MIAMI — Hurricane Erin was downgraded to a tropical storm Saturday as it churned through the North Atlantic with its top winds clocked at 70 m.p.h. Erin posed no threat to land and was expected to lose strength as it moved over colder waters, the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables said.
