Alhambra : Building Freeze Relaxed

Developers wishing exemptions from a building moratorium on Valley Boulevard can request one from the city if their projects comply with preliminary land-use and development standards the City Council has approved for the commercial corridor.

At a meeting Monday, the council voted unanimously to adopt procedures for requesting exemptions from the moratorium, which will be in effect until January. Previously, the council agreed to review exemptions only for projects the Planning Commission had approved before the moratorium was adopted late last year.

City planners in charge of the Valley Boulevard development project are scheduled to present the preliminary land-use guidelines to the public at two meetings:

Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramona School Auditorium, 900 S. Almansor St.

Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Martha Baldwin School, 509 W. Norwood Place.

To obtain an exemption, an applicant must submit a request to the Valley Boulevard Steering Committee. If the committee decides that the project is consistent with preliminary development guidelines for the boulevard, the exemption request will be forwarded to the council. The request must also be reviewed by the city’s Design Review Board and the Planning Commission.
