Abrush fire raced up a hillside in a residential neighborhood in Newhall on Wednesday, briefly threatening about 20 houses but causing no structural damage, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.
The three- to five-acre blaze started shortly before 5 p.m. near Oakrun Lane and Apple Street and was contained by 5:30 p.m., said Capt. Scott E. Franklin. The fire was listed as suspicious in origin and may have been started by youths seen leaving the area immediately before flames broke out, Franklin said.
