Civil Disobedience Tactics of Operation Rescue Leaders
Bravo to Judge Tashima for his rulings on the anti-abortion protest case. Let’s hope the Operation Rescue prediction will not come true: Namely that anyone involved will never pay a dollar in fines.
Would it not be possible to estimate the actual costs to the public to have police officers, patrol cars, and Fire Department ambulances and personnel taken away from their assigned tasks in order to monitor these demonstrations (not to mention possible physical injury to the officers who have to haul away limp bodies), the costs of the book work to arrest, jail and release the protesters on probation, the ensuing court costs, lawyers’ fees, etc.?
If future penalties were to be determined on a “pay as you go” basis, the present fines imposed might seem inadequate.
