Lewis Franklin was named vice president, special studies, for the space and defense sector of TRW Inc. In 1964, he was the first employee hired by the founders of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based ESL Inc., a defense electronics firm that is now a TRW subsidiary, and was most recently its senior vice president, business and technology development.

In his newly created position Franklin will focus on analytic studies for customers in the intelligence community and will work with the sector’s operating groups.

He will work at the headquarters of the space and defense sector in Redondo Beach.
