CSUN’s Benefield Player of Week
David Benefield, a senior outside linebacker from Cal State Northridge, has been selected Defensive Player of the Week in the Western Football Conference for his performance in the Matadors’ 27-20 loss to Cal State Fullerton last Saturday .
Benefield had two interceptions, both of which CSUN turned into scoring opportunities.
Early in the second quarter, Benefield picked off a Dan Speltz pass at the Fullerton 40. Seven plays later, a 35-yard field-goal attempt by Abo Velasco was blocked.
Benefield struck again with 1:08 remaining in the first half, grabbing a pass intended for Rocky Palamara and returning it 33 yards to the Titans’ three. Northridge scored two plays later.
