Roundup : Wood’s 7 Goals Lead La Quinta in Water Polo
The La Quinta High School water polo team equaled its victory total of last season when the Aztecs (2-0) defeated Santa Ana, 16-5, Monday at Santa Ana.
Zac Wood scored seven goals for La Quinta, which took the lead early and never gave it up. The second string took over in the fourth quarter. Goalie Steve Fairchild had 12 saves.
In girls’ nonleague tennis:
Capistrano Valley 17, Foothill 1--Only the No. 3 doubles team lost a set as the Cougars won at Foothill. Capistrano Valley is 2-0.
Esperanza 15, Fullerton 3--For the third consecutive match, Esperanza’s singles players all swept their sets and the Aztecs easily defeated the Indians at Esperanza. Kassi Lundahl won 6-2, 6-1, 6-0; Cheryl Graham won 6-4, 6-0, 6-0; and Katerina Hantas won 7-5, 6-0, 6-1. Esperanza is now 3-0.
Orange 17, Santa Ana Valley 1--The Panthers’ dominating victory over the Falcons at Santa Ana Valley was Orange’s fifth victory of the season without a loss.
University 15, El Toro 3--Jeannette Fylpaa () and Cynthia Williams swept their singles sets as the Trojans (5-0) defeated host El Toro (2-3).
Fylpaa hasn’t lost in 15 sets this season. Williams is 14-1.
Valencia 16, El Modena 2--Julie Williams won her sets 6-0, 6-2, 6-0, and the doubles team of Lori Klocke and Pam Haskell won 6-0, 7-6, 6-2 as host Valencia improved its record to 3-1.
