Shooting and Accident 1 Block Apart Injure 5
A man was shot in the back in a drive-by shooting in Santa Ana late Sunday night, then minutes later four people were injured--one critically--in a traffic accident 300 yards away.
The drive-by shooting was reported at 9:44 p.m. at the corner of West Edinger Avenue and Bristol Street. An unidentified man was shot by someone in a white car going south on Bristol, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Bob Clark said.
Police en route to that attack discovered the traffic accident at 9:59 p.m. at the corner of Bristol and St. Andrew Place, just one block south of the shooting scene. The crash, apparently unrelated to the shooting, involved at least one motorcycle.
Paramedics were sent to both scenes. A Lifeflight helicopter was dispatched to transport victims to area trauma centers. No other details were available.
Last weekend, two people were killed in gang violence in Santa Ana: a 4-year-old and a teen-ager. Six others were wounded.
