SYDNEY, Australia — A tour bus filled with vacationers crashed into a truck today north of Sydney and at least 22 people, including seven members of one family, died, police said. It was Australia’s worst bus accident.
Both drivers were among those killed in the head-on collision on the Pacific Highway near Cowper.
The tour bus was carrying about 42 passengers, said Keith Weinert, managing director of Sunliner Coaches. It was 320 miles north of Sydney en route to Brisbane when the accident occurred at about 4 a.m.
The families were on their way to the Whitsunday Islands in northern Queensland for a boating holiday.
