WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH KOREA : 36 Sentenced for Riot That Killed 7

Thirty-six South Korean student radicals were sentenced in Pusan to jail terms ranging from 30 months to life for taking part in a campus riot in which seven police officers died. The court convicted 35 other students on similar charges, but they were given suspended sentences and released. In May, the radicals took several police officers hostage at Tongui University, then set fires that killed the officers during a rescue attempt.
