Morgan Signs Two-Year Deal With Dodgers
Right-handed pitcher Mike Morgan, who had an 8-11 record despite a creditable 2.53 earned-run average, signed a two-year contract with the Dodgers, the team announced Tuesday.
Terms were not disclosed.
Morgan, 30, was acquired by the Dodgers in a March 11 trade with the Baltimore Orioles. He topped the major leagues in ERA through July 13 and was among the National League leaders in the category throughout most of the season.
Morgan started 19 games, going 6-11 while getting very little offensive support. He was 2-0 in 21 games as a reliever.
“Mike showed last year he can be an important contributor to our pitching staff as a starter or in relief,” said Fred Claire, Dodger executive vice president.
With Morgan signed, the Dodgers have five players who remain eligible to file for free agency--Dave Anderson, Mickey Hatcher, John Shelby, John Tudor and Fernando Valenzuela.
