COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Beats UCLA in Water Polo, 12-9
UC Irvine, ranked second in the nation, defeated No. 6 UCLA, 12-9, Tuesday in a nonconference water polo match at Heritage Park in Irvine.
Irvine (17-3) took a 7-4 lead at the half as Tom Warde scored three goals and Dan Smoot and Julian Harvey added two each.
UCLA (9-8) cut Irvine’s lead to 8-7 when Ken Little scored late in the third quarter.
Warde, Irvine’s leading scorer, finished with a game-high five goals.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s volleyball:
Chapman 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0--Dana Beardsley had 14 kills and Rena Strange 13 as visiting Chapman (22-2 overall, 5-0 in conference) won, 15-4, 16-14, 15-8.
