* The pursuit of power: The second volume in Robert A. Caro’s acclaimed biography, “The Years of Lyndon Johnson,” will be published next March, Alfred A. Knopf announced in New York. In “Means of Ascent,” the second of four projected volumes, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author continues the story of Johnson’s pursuit of national power from his unsuccessful 1941 campaign for the U.S. Senate until the fiercely contested senatorial campaign of 1948.
* Bewitched: In their annual Halloween predictions for next year, American witches announced tongue-in-cheek Monday that Donald Trump will lose most of his money in a rigged pinochle game and Roseanne Barr will become one of America’s most beautiful women. The 16th annual survey compiled by the New York Center for the Strange, a nonprofit research organization, was accompanied by a plea from Center Executive Director Richard Blaine for a better understanding of witches.
* Tres chic : “The best dressed women are in the street,” and don’t necessarily wear the labels of the world’s top designers, “Womens Wear Daily” publisher John Fairchild said Monday in New York. “You see them in Seattle, New York, all around the country.” Promoting his new book, “Chic Savages,” about the fashion and society scene, Fairchild also said versions of WWD would be published in Europe in the near future.
