COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Advances in Water Polo Playoffs
Henry Rabello had three goals and Steve Kidder and Greg LaPointe added two each to lead Golden West College to a 11-8 victory over Long Beach in the semifinal round of the Southern California Regional water polo playoffs Friday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Golden West (28-3) plays Cuesta in the regional final at 7:30 tonight.
In another regional match:
Long Beach 13, Cypress 11--Craig Garcia and Eric Coolbaugh scored three goals apiece for Cypress, which was eliminated by the loss. Cypress finished the season 22-9.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Orange Coast 80, Southwestern 62--Chip Hanlon scored 22 points and Alan Schlines had 19 to lead host OCC in the season opener for both teams.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Golden West 112, San Diego City 56--Micki Hamilton scored 26 points to lead host Golden West in the season opener for both teams. Shawna Armstrong added 19, Claudette Jackson 16, Cossette Smith 11, and Stacy Johnson, Donna Gondringer and Bits Sirchia 10 points each for Golden West, which led at the half, 59-18.
