Hertz to Pay for Car Sale Fraud: Hertz Corp. agreed to pay up to $3 million in settlement costs for illegally selling used rental cars without telling buyers the vehicles were salvaged wrecks. Hertz offered to repurchase up to 753 cars and pay civil penalties and investigative costs. The 753 cars were shipped from throughout California to County Auto Pool, a private car auctioneer in Chula Vista. County Auto Pool was named along with Hertz as co-defendant and both agreed to the settlement without admitting any wrongdoing.
