Libyans Protest in 7 Cities Over Malta Talks
LONDON — Libyans held marches in seven cities Saturday to protest the superpower summit off Malta, 200 miles from Libya, calling the meeting “muscle-flexing and a provocation,” the official Libyan news agency Jana said.
In a report monitored by the British Broadcasting Corp., Jana said protesters called for the removal of all foreign fleets and “weapons of mass destruction” from the Mediterranean.
Jana said marches were held in Tripoli and six other Libyan cities.
“Student masses at educational institutions demanded that the meeting should not be at the expense of the security and stability of the Mediterranean peoples,” Jana said.
