Finland’s Ari-Pekka Nikkola won the World Cup 70-meter ski jumping competition at Lake Placid, N.Y., and moved to the top of the international standings.
Nikkola, 20, picked up 25 World Cup points with the win. He went 86 meters on his first jump to hold the first-round lead and then added an 89-meter jump to put him past Austria’s Ernst Vettori. Nikkola finished with 236.6 style and distance points. Vettori, who won Saturday’s 90-meter event, was second with 229.1 points.
