THE SIDELINES : McCallum to Defend WBA Title
From Times Wire Services
DUBLIN, Ireland — Jamaican Mike McCallum will defend his World Boxing Assn. middleweight title against Ireland’s Steve Collins on Feb. 3, promoters said today.
Collins, the WBA’s fifth-ranked middleweight, will fight the champion at the 4,000-seat Point Depot, a new arena along the waterfront in Dublin.
McCallum was scheduled to defend his crown against Briton Michael Watson last month in London, but the top-ranked challenger broke his nose during training and had to pull out of the fight.
