THE SIDELINES : Loyola Player Gathers Sidelined While Undergoing More Tests
Loyola Marymount center Hank Gathers, who collapsed on the court during a game on Dec. 9, won’t play for the Lions Tuesday night at Oregon State against the 21st-ranked Beavers, it was announced today.
Loyola Marymount sports information director Barry Zepel said Gathers was undergoing tests today and more testing was scheduled for Tuesday.
An announcement will be made later in the week as to Gathers’ availability Saturday night when the Lions entertain seventh-ranked Oklahoma, Zepel said.
Gathers, a senior who led the country in scoring and rebounding last season, collapsed at the free throw line while trying to catch his breath with 13:56 remaining in Loyola Marymount’s 104-101 victory over UC Santa Barbara. He was admitted to Centinela Hospital and released two days later.
Both Loyola Marymount and Oregon State have 5-1 records.
