THE SIDELINES : Colorado Coach Mum on Pact
Colorado Coach Bill McCartney says he is willing to talk with university officials about renegotiating his contract, but he will not discuss it with the news media.
McCartney and his team are in Miami preparing for their Orange Bowl showdown New Year’s night with Notre Dame. If the Buffs win, they will be national champions.
University President Gordon Gee has said he wants to renegotiate McCartney’s contract after the season. The eight-year coach is in the third year of a four-year contract, but McCartney has gone on record as saying he does not want to extend his contract until it runs out.
He said, however, that if university officials want to talk about a new contract, he will listen.
“Obviously, if any of my bosses want to talk to me, I’ll talk to them, just like anyone would,” McCartney said.
