Jon A. Shirley will retire as president and chief operating officer of Microsoft Corp. at the end of the company’s current fiscal year, June 30. Shirley, who has been president since August, 1983, will continue as a director of the software company in Redmond, Wash., and as a consultant for strategic projects.
