Services will be conducted today for Maybelle Spencer, a former Anaheim city treasurer, who died Wednesday of Parkinson’s disease at Chapman Harbor Convalescent Center in Garden Grove. She was 84.

Mrs. Spencer was the last treasurer to be elected by city voters. She had succeeded her father in the position of deputy treasurer after his death in June, 1955. Her father had held the post since 1940.

She was elected to three successive terms as treasurer until 1964, when Anaheim became a chartered city and the treasurer’s post became an appointed position. She retired from office in 1973 but continued to be active in such organizations as the Municipal Tax Assn., the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rebecca Lodge of Anaheim.

Mrs. Spencer, a graduate of Anaheim High School, is credited with developing a licensing ordinance that served as a blueprint for other Orange County communities.

She is survived by a daughter, Jo Anne Spencer of Anaheim.

Services will be at 1 p.m. at Bachs-Kaulbars Baggott and Schacht Anaheim Mortuary, 1617 W. La Palma Ave.
