HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Grant Forced to Rally but Gains Usual Result With Win Over Reseda

There wasn’t anything charming for Reseda about facing Grant High’s boys’ basketball team for the third time this season.

After falling to the Lancers twice in tournaments last month, Reseda Coach Jeff Halpern and the Regents figured they might be able to work out a little frustration in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.

No such luck. Despite trailing at halftime, Grant came back to beat Reseda, 48-41, and make it a clean sweep of the 1989-90 season.

“I don’t ever want to see them again,” Halpern deadpanned. “I’m just tired of it.”

Reseda led, 23-22, at halftime, but in the second half, Grant (11-3, 1-0 in league play) went inside to senior forward Setro Terzian, who scored 11 of his 14 points in the final two quarters. In the meantime, Reseda (4-7) went cold at the free-throw line, making just 12 of 26, and missing the front end of several one-and-one opportunities.

Marquis Wilborn led Reseda with 13 points, but fouled out in the second half. Grant’s Brunnel Mori scored 13 points and Keith Weinstein added 12.
