Arthur Guy Jr., Judge Since ‘81, Is Dead at 73

NEWPORT BEACH —  North Orange Municipal Court Judge Arthur D. Guy Jr., 73, a 30-year Corona del Mar resident, died early Saturday at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach after battling pneumonia and complications for several months.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Guy started a private law practice in Corona del Mar in 1947 after receiving his law degree from USC. He kept his practice until he was appointed to the bench in 1981.

A former Navy lieutenant, Guy flew surveillance blimps at the Santa Ana Naval Air Station, now the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

He was a past president of USC Law Alumni and Phi Alpha Delta, a national legal fraternity, and founder of the Orange County chapter of that fraternity. Guy also served as president of the Death Valley Fortyniners, a youth educational scholarship foundation, and was president of the Friends of UCI. He was a director emeritus of UCI Medical Center.

Guy was president of Legion Lex, the fund-raising arm of the USC law school, and a member of the Rotary Club, the Masonic order and the American Legion.

He was also a director of the USC Law Library.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; a son, Arthur III; a brother, Raymond, and two grandsons.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Community Congregational Church, where Guy was a deacon, at 611 Heliotrope Ave., Corona del Mar.
