NATION IN BRIEF : ALASKA : Ash From Volcano Disrupts Air Traffic

In its largest eruption since reawakening last month, Redoubt Volcano 115 miles southwest of Anchorage hurled an anvil-shaped plume of steam and ash more than 8 miles into the air. Most of the ash was carried east and south over the Kenai Peninsula and out over the Gulf of Alaska. Flights from Anchorage to Kenai and Homer were canceled.
