‘Today’ Picking New Boss: With Deborah Norville debuting in Jane Pauley’s place on NBC’s “Today” show this week, the network was also selecting a new boss for the series. Top candidates reportedly included Tom Capra, the news director who led KNBC Channel 4 to the top of the ratings; Steve Friedman, former head of “Today”; and the series’ current executive producer, Marty Ryan. The job opened up when negotiations between “Entertainment Tonight” producer David Nuell and “Today” fell through.
